This fruit remembers Persephone,
the mythic promise that binds the seasons.
For a handful of seeds, she trades the light
for a realm of darkness and waiting.
The pomegranate holds this paradox:
it is the fruit of departure and return,
a messy, glorious token of autumn's deep and vibrant blood.
